Board And Batten Hatch Pattern For Autocad

In AutoCAD, hatches are annotation objects — like text and dimensions — in that they don’t directly contribute to the geometry of what you’re drawing. However, they do impart additional information.

Like text and dimensions, hatches also need to be scaled to suit the final drawing scale. Start with the common ANSI31 pattern. As defined, it produces parallel lines spaced 1/8” apart. So far, so good — but what if you’re drawing the cross section of a large part, such as the 10’ boom on a backhoe?

Remember to always draw at full size and then scale when you plot. If you were to apply hatches at the nominal 1:1 scale and then plot at 1:10 to fit the boom on a smaller sheet of paper, the 1/8” hatch spacing becomes 0.0125 inch, which effectively becomes a solid fill. As with text and dimensions, you apply a scale factor of 10 to the hatches. The hatch lines in the drawing file then turn out to be 1.25 inches apart, which scale down to 1/8” when you plot.

Generally, to fill an area with a pattern hatches are used and there are plenty of ready-made hatch patterns available in AutoCAD but if you want to use your own custom hatch pattern then you can make it using a type of simple code and also using an express tool called Superhatch. .BATTEN, Board and Batten Siding;;by Michael Sapp 2001 90,0,0,0,12 90,2,0,0,12 Mike Sapp wrote: Add these lines to your acad.pat.BATTEN, Board and Batten Siding;;by Michael Sapp 2001 90,0,0,0,12 90,1.5,0,0,12 Don Sutherland wrote: I would like to see if any one has a patt file for a Board and Batt pattern with 1x2 flat.

Scaling the hard way

The hard way (the old way) to scale hatches is to calculate the scale factor before placing the hatches and then enter it into the appropriate window in the Properties panel on the Hatch tab of the Ribbon, in the hope that you don’t need to change the plotting scale later. You don’t even want to think about setting the scale for a detail at a different scale in the same drawing.

Scaling the easy way

The easy way to scale a hatch is to select the drawing scale from the Scale List button in the lower-right corner of the AutoCAD screen, the same as you do for text and dimensions, and then to turn on the Annotative option in the Options panel of the Hatch tab on the Ribbon. Now whenever you create hatches, they scale themselves correctly to suit the current plot scale.

The setting of the Annotative button is good for only the current editing session, and it must be reset if you add more hatches later. The AutoCAD Help facility states that this setting is saved in the drawing, but it isn’t.

It is strongly recommended that you turn off the Automatically Add Scales option when placing annotative text and dimensions, because you normally don’t want everything to show at every scale, especially when creating details at other scales. Hatches, on the other hand, normally do show in every view at every scale, scaled accordingly. You might be tempted to turn this option back on for hatches, but if you do, the first time you change the drawing scale, the new scale is added to all existing annotative objects. The best practice is to edit the hatches and manually add scales.

Don’t confuse annotative and associative, even though both are polysyllabic words that start with a and sit next to one another in the Options panel on the Hatch Creation tab. Annotative hatch objects scale themselves automatically to suit the drawing scale. Associative hatch objects (enabled by default) update to the new area when you change the hatch boundary.

Annotative versus non-annotative

Here are two versions of the same drawing, dressed up with annotative and non-annotative hatch patterns. As shown by the annotation scales displayed on the drawings’ status bars, the annotative hatches change their scales, whereas the non-annotative hatches remain unchanged.

There is another way: The hatches in both views are the same object, but because the viewports have different scales, the hatches adjust accordingly.

Before annotative hatches first appeared in AutoCAD 2008, the only way to create the effect in these two views in both drawings was to create two separate layers, one for each hatch scale, hatch the object twice, and then freeze and thaw layers as appropriate.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Hatch Patterns Not Visible

Dec 22, 2013

Our engineering department users are facing this problem that the hatch patterns are not visible. Everytime they have to use the FILL command when they open any drawing. They are facing this problem with some dwgs, when anybody else opens the same drawing this happens again. After that they are unable to see the hatch patterns in any drawing. After using FILL it becomes visible but restrting the AutoCAD reverts the setting back so they unable to see the hatch pattern again. After opening that dwg in all files they are unable to hatch.

AutoCAD 2013 :: User Defined Hatch Patterns

Oct 23, 2013

I am having some trouble with hatch patterns. We are using FM Systems as our CAFM tool and there is a plugin for it within AutoCAD. The plugin allows you to create hatch patterns for things such as departments and space types. Right now this is working perfectly within AutoCAD 2012. However, when I try to run the routine within AutoCAD 2014, the only hatches that show up are the solid ones. In other words, any pattern that is not a solid pattern does not show up. I tried comparing all of the Hatch System Variables between 2012 and 2014, but still get the same thing.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Standard Hatch Patterns Disappeared (LT 2012)

Jul 16, 2013

I added a .PAT file to the 'support file search path' in order to use a custom hatch pattern. (Im using AutoCAD LT 2012)
In the process it has deleted all of the predifined hatch patterns and the custom one did not work either. So now I have ZERO hatch patterns.
How do I get the predefined hatches back?

AutoCAD 2013 :: How To Recover Old Profile Settings And Save Hatch Patterns

Aug 7, 2012

I am working with a client who upgraded to 2013 and their profile settings have disappeared. They also are not able to open hatch patterns that have been copied to the default folder, which is added to the support files search path.
I am not a CAD user or expert with the application, but am required to provide IT support for a client that uses the product.
Steps to recover the old profile settings and save the hatch patterns so they are available each time the application is opened?

AutoCAD LT :: Custom Hatch Patterns

Jul 15, 2013

I have two, seemingly identical, installations of AutoCAD LT 2012 on two machines in our office. Both machines have the MEASUREMENT variable set to 1.
The acadltiso.pat file of both machines has been customized with the addition of two hatch patterns and both of these work just fine.
In addition, the support folders of both installation also have identical sets of custom hatch patterns. On one of these machines thumbnails for these are visible and all works entirely as expected. However, on the other machine, none of these custom hatch patterns appear at all. In fact I cannot even see the custom hatch pattern tab!

AutoCAD 2010 :: How To Get Hatch Patterns Back

Feb 24, 2012

I have been using AutoCAD Civil 3D lately but went to use my AutoCAD 2011 I noticed I have no hatch patterns. I thought that these patterns were located in the support folder so I got my DVD that has the program on it out and was going to reload AutoCAD to fix the problem. It would not reload it so I copied the support folder to my computer in the AutoCAD file and still nothing. What can I do to get my hatch patterns back?

AutoCad :: Loading Custom Hatch Patterns

Jan 13, 2009

I am trying to load hatch files from StoneCAD. In the past I have been able to take hatch patterns from various sources and locate them in a file within AutoCAD LT, then use them without issue.
I have never touched a .pat file or written anything in notepad or word, just simply copied the .dxf files to a file on my computer and was able to use them through AutoCAD LT 2009. Recently I had to reload the software and I can't figure out where I would go to put these hatch files.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Duplicating Hatch Patterns In Drawing

Dec 7, 2011

I opened a drawing that I had not opened in over a month originally created in AutCAD 2011, and now using 2012. It appears only some of the hatch patterns that I created are now duplicated, and in some cases up to 17 times! When I select the pattern it doesn't show that there are multiple hatches underneath, but when selected it shows in the properties box All(2) or more. One of my patterns was scaled down and rotated 90 degrees and because when I select it it's showing 10 entities selected I cannot scale it back or rotate it without deleting and re-hatching. The .dwg is pretty complex so doing this for every hatch that shows multiple would be very tedious.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Hatch Patterns In Tool Palettes

Jan 18, 2013

Recently switched from AutoCAD 2006 to AutoCAD 2012, I have hatch patterns set up for different area, with scale, layer, etc., when inserted using the Tool Palette. Never had an issue with it, but in 2012 it doesn't seem to work. Instead of inserting the hatch with the layer specified in the tool palette, it assigns the hatch pattern whatever layer was used when hatching a previous area, using the hatch dialog box.

AutoCAD Architecture :: Custom Hatch Patterns Using Blocks?

Mar 15, 2011

I've not done custom hatch patterns in the past, but I'd like to create a custom hatch pattern using a block I have. Is there an easy way to do this?
Would like to make a 8' CMU (section) hatch pattern, as an example, to use in automated sections that I generate.
Pretty easy to see where I'm headed w/ this.
Any easy conversion tool or the ability to explode the block, select everything for a hatch pattern and click 'OK'.
Likely there isn't, but it never hurts to ask when starting out.
